Laura (Knight)Rumsey, was one of six children of Rev. Arnold D. Wright and Harriet (Harkness) WRIGHT. At the age of one and one-half years, her family moved from New York to Ohio, four miles south of Oberlin. Her father pastored and preached in that area until April 1853, when they moved to Michigan and settled in Jefferson township, Hillsdale Co.
She was married to George W. Rumsey Nov. 2, 1855, and they located on a farm where they resided fifty-seven years.
Raised in a Christian home, she worked all her life for her Lord, uniting with the Free Bapt. church in Pittsfield, OH, when a girl, and when Osseo Free Bapt. church, (MI) was established, Mrs. Rumsey became a charter member and held that membership until her death. She was also a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the church.
Mr. and Mrs. Rumsey were very active workers in the Osseo church and their home was ever open to young and old alike and were recognized far and near for their rare hospitality and cordiality.
