Michael Bowerman was born in Ontario county, New York, Sept. 4,
1823, and at the age of five years came with his parents to Moneca
county, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. September 30, 1841, he was
married to Sarah Jane Gooding, and in 1853 they moved to Steuben
county. To this union were born three children, one preceding him
to the better land. Mrs. Bowerman died June 7, 1863, and on March
23(?), 1868, he married Eliza Jane Swalley, and to this union was
born one child. The subject of this sketch resided continuously on
the farm he purchased in 1864 until his death which occurred Sept.
26, 1899, at the age of 76 years and 22 days. He leaves a wife,
three children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
During the last few years, his life was almost a burden to him,
owing to poor health. Funeral services were held at Pleasant View,
Elder Melvin Menges, of the Christian church, officiating. Burial
at Flint cemetery.
