Maggie was the eldest child of Thomas & Annie (Farrell) Donahue. Her family resided at 39 Hebden Street, in the East Newark section of Harrison, NJ, where her father had a grocery store. Maggie helped in the store and at home as her mother suffered the after effects of childbirth and her health weakened.
On 13 April 1887, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Harrison, NJ, Maggie was married to John J. Bulger. John was from Harrison, NJ, but he had moved to Holyoke, MA, where they took up residence as a young couple. Their son, Percival, was born in MA. In 1891 they returned to NJ where they eventually ran a saloon at 43 Bridge Street, Newark, NJ.
After the death of her husband, John J. Bulger, Maggie ran a large boarding house in downtown Newark to support her son. She seems to have had a couple of different addresses but eventually was across the street from Bamberger's Department store. In addition to the income from boarders, Maggie cooked a large meal at noontime and served many of the workers from the store.
On 26 December 1917, Maggie was remarried at St. Antonius Catholic Church, Newark, to Herman Hubert. Together they moved to Monmouth County, NJ where they opened two butcher shops - one in Keyport and one in Keansburg. They also had a seasonal boarding house in Keansburg named "The Holland House".
Maggie is buried in Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet, NJ with her second husband, Herman Hubert; her son, Percival Bulger; and his wife, Edna Swenson Bulger.
