SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

Charles was born January 4, 1862 in Virginia. He was the son of Isaac Callison and Eliza Jarrell, who were both born in West Virginia.

MILITARY RECORD:
Private of Company "G", 4th Virginia Voluntary Infantry.
A resident of Christianburg, Virginia, he enlisted July 13, 1898 at Richmond, Virgina for a period of two years. Joined organization at Jacksonville, Florida, July 20th, 1898. Honorably discharged April 27, 1899, at Savannah, Georgia.

In March 1926 at the age of 64 years, he applied for admittance to Washington Veterans' Home. He indicated that he had been a resident of the state since June 4, 1915; his occupation was Laborer and Rancher; and that he was single. He was receiving a pension of $18 a month since June 13, 1923.

He was approved for admittance to the Home on March 1st, 1926. Mr. Callison committed suicide sixteen months later. He was 65 years of age. Washington State Death records indicate he died on 25 July 1927; however, the Veterans Home records list his date of death as August 8, 1927. The veteran was found dead on a ranch near Port Orchard, Washington. He was buried at the Home Cemetery on August 9th.
