Ed was born on Orcas Island and moved to Bellingham in the 1920's where he later met Harriet, a recently arrived young lady from the Midwest. They were married on March 15, 1929. Ed worked for 32 years at Puget Sound Pulp & Timber Co. in Bellingham. He was a member of Local 194 of the Association of Western Pulp & Paper Workers.

Ed and Harriet were residents of Whatcom County for over 60 years; at the time of his death, their home was in the Mountain View township near Ferndale. They were members of Triumph Lutheran Church in Ferndale. In addition to his widow, Ed was survived by his son, a granddaughter, three grandsons, and a great-granddaughter.
