Charles Miller Bowers was the son of Michael H. and Rebecca (Miller) Bowers. He was born July 16, 1875 in Bedford, Pennsylvania. He was five foot seven inches tall and had a light complexion.
MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted April 27, 1898 at Lincoln, Nebraska. Assigned to Company H, 1st Nebraska Infantry. Discharged August 23, 1899 at Presidio, California with rank of Sergeant. Pension on Certificate No. C-2 847 910.
He was married to Alice May Kitchen on December 24, 1911 at Kalispell, Montana. He had lived in Washington state since 1921 and had resided in Puyallup, Gig Harbor and Port Orchard. He lived at the Washington Veterans' Home from October 1942 to January 1946, when he was discharged. He lived in Port Orchard from that time to June 1947, when he re-entered the Veterans' Home. Mr. Bowers died aged 74 years on November 12, 1949 at the Veterans' Home. He was cremated and his ashes we placed in an urn which was buried in the Home Cemetery. After his death, Mr. Bower's wife remarried in September 1953 to another Home veteran, Stanley Roberts.
