Amy Garnette Merricks, 32, died on April 14, 2009 in an auto accident. She was born in Reading, Pa in 1977, and moved to Maryland in 1978.

Throughout her school career, she pursued her love of science and art. She worked throughout high school and college years at Agrisearch Research Laboratories, the family business.

Amy graduated from Linganore High School with honors in 1995, and graduated from UMBC in 2000 with double majors in Biochemistry and Ancient Studies.

She interned at the Smithsonian Institution in the analysis of ancient artifacts, and was studying for her PhD at Johns Hopkins University in Geology and Crystallography. Having won several art awards, Amy continued with drawing, painting and silversmithing. She believed in the betterment of man through science. Amy had a love of animals and adored her cat Bailey.

Beloved daughter of Donna and Dr Larry Merricks of Detour, MD, her sister, Lisa and husband Rhett Leisinger of Hagerstown, MD, Nieces Janet Leisinger and Nicole Reed of Los Angles, CA, Grandmother, Ruth Holscher of Hot Springs Village, AR and uncle, Bill Holscher of Naperville, IL and his children William and Kendall, and friends Ed and Cathy Scott of New Market, MD. We miss you dear Amy and love you forever.
