VICTORIA - Carl Paul Linke, 58, of Houston, was killed Saturday evening when his two place Cessna 150 Airplane crashed and burned on an unused runway at Foster Field after stalling on an apparent landing approach.
Investigators said the plane skidded for approximately 450 feet on its left wing before toppling over on its back and bursting into flames.
Airport officials said Linke had not made radio contact with the airport before the crash occurred at 6:43 p.m.
Linke, who had been a licensed pilot for a year, was found about 15 yards from where the plane came to rest. He was taken by a city ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Officials said the runway on which the plane crashed had not been used for a number of years because of several holes in the concrete.
Linke owned the airplane and had it hangered at Andrau Airpark on Westheimer Road in Houston. His occupation was not known by local officials.
