Son of Vincent Shurtleff and Elizabeth Loomis Shurleff.
Husband of Ophelia Stoddard married 11 Apr 1872 in Farmington, Davis County, Utah.

His parents were converts to the LDS Church and traveled to the Utah Territory with the Edward Hunter - Jacob Foutz Company in which his father served as a Captain of Ten. The wagon train arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on October 1, 1847. Albert Dewey Shurtleff lived in Morgan, Utah, until after his marriage. In 1880 he moved with his young family to Stoddard, Morgan County, where he had purchased a farm. From 1890 to 1894 Albert Dewey Shurtleff was the postmaster in Morgan. His daughter Mabel was his assistant at the post office. He then moved with his family to Ogden, Utah, where he lived until his death.

Albert Dewey Shurtleff died at age 61, on August 8, 1910 in Ogden, Utah. He is buried at the South Morgan Cemetery, in Morgan, UT.
