Enlisted at Chaplin, Connecticut. Musterred in Company H, Connecticut 18th Infantry Regiment on August 18, 1862; mustered out on June 27, 1865 at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia.

He married Lucy Ann Bailey and had at least one child, Elsie who married Daniel B. Pierce.

He learned the carpenter trade in Willimantic, and died there when about sixty-four years old. Implied birth would be roughly estimated as 1820. The 1860 federal census provided a birth estimate of 1823. Children included: Elsie, Herbert, born c1848 and Medusa, born c1851
