During the Civil War, George served in the Indiana 19th Infantry, Company E. He enlisted on July 29, 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 1st, 1863. He transfered to the 20th Indiana Infantry on October 18, 1864, with the other surviving members of the 19th Indiana.

He was the son of Daniel HUFFORD and Jane HUSTON.

On December 31, 1864, he married Mary Jane RIDGEWAY in Delaware Co., Indiana. With Mary Jane, he had two children: William S. and John Walter. In 1870, George and Mary Jane were in Delaware Township, Delaware County, Indiana, with their two sons (William S. and John Walter). They were listed on the census directly below George's parents (Daniel and Jane Hufford).

George secondly married Sarah Jane GOODRICH. With Sarah, he had two children: Thomas and Ottie. In 1880, George and Sarah were in Fairfax Township, Osage County, Kansas, with his sons from his first marriage (William S. and John W.) and with their son Thomas (3).

In 1880, he filed for and started to receive a pension as a veteran of the Union Army.

In 1885, George and Sarah were in Fairfax Township, Osage County, Kansas, for the Kansas State Census. With them were his sons from his first marriage (W.S., 19; J.W., 17) and their two sons (T.M., 8; O.S., 3).

George farmed in both Delaware County, Indiana, and Osage County, Kansas.
