He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1934, studied architecture 2 years at ND State Univ., and entered the military service in March, 1942.
He served in China 1942-1944, with the HQ 14th USAAF and designed the 'Flying Tiger' insignia used by the Air Force during WW2 and until de-activation. He returned to state side and was discharged as a Master Sgt. Oct. 18, 1945, commissioned in the US Army Reserves in 1949, and retired as Lt. Col in 1970.
On returning to civilian life in 1945, he entered the field of architecture and held positions of Director of Production for Sorey, Hill and Sorey Architects-Engineers for over 32 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a life member of ROA, a member of Kiwanis, the 14th Air Force Assoc., the American Legion, and a long time member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He had been a serous artist since 1972.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy, daughters, Valerie Underwood, Fairborn, OH, Linda Allison, OK City, son, Lance D. Arnegard, Redlands, CA; 2 granddaughters: Monica Rowell and Jenni Allison; brother, Donald Arnegard; sister-in-law, Jane Arnegard, Redlands, CA; son-in-law, Monty Allison, OK and Jeffrey Underwood, Dayton, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and Helen Arnegard, the mother of his children.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Messiah Lutheran School.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sat. Dec. 6 at Messiah Lutheran Church, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Mercer-Adams.
