I have to say this right off....My aunt's favorite color of flower of all time was PINK. She loved how they looked and smelled. If anyone would like to leave a PINK flower for her; I know she would've loved every one of them. Thank you and God bless! Also.....

Nellie (Cumins) Brown was my dad's older sister. She was not only my favorite aunt in the whole world, but one of the BEST people I have ever had in my life. I wish I had taken the time out to really learn more about her life. We did talk some, but you can never get enough information about someone's life and all they did. Her and my dad used to tell me stories of when they were growing up; and how hard they used to work in the cotton fields alongside their Mama & Papa, and all their other brothers and sisters. How hard they had it as kids...I am so proud of my heritage and the strength that showed through them!
There are some really neat things about my aunt that I did get to know though. Aunt Nellie grew up in a time where kids didn't get to finish school because of having to go to work. She told me of a story about how her papa would make her sit on the rafters in the old (cabin-like) house they lived in, and make her learn her ABC's. She told me she got to learn her ABC's so good, she could say them backwards as fast as we could say them frontwards!! She proved it to me many a time. I got the biggest kick out of that, and I was proud that someone who didn't get more than a 4th or 5th grade education could accomplish a feat like that. I've tried it myself, and it is very hard to do. She was a very hard worker at any job she had. They (her jobs) were mostly workin' in the packin' houses in California.
She also told me when she was born, she only weighed a little over 2lbs. at birth, yet she lived to be a healthy woman! Her mama could fit her in an old shoe box when she was born; and because they lived on a farm, as a baby her mama would take her while grandma was milkin the cow; and squirt milk in my aunts mouth straight from the cows teat! She was to me, and to many others such a remarkable woman!
She loved goin to the country honky-tonks on Friday nights! Her daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and I would always take her and everyone there just loved her so much! She never drank any alcohol; just Coca-Colas. She'd get up and dance with whoever would ask her, or if the music moved her; (which seemed like every fast country song!) I remember when we went gambling together; she never would win but $10-$20 here and there on the nickel keno machines, but felt like she had won the jackpot! She always said as a little girl, she didn't have but a couple changes of clothes and swore as an adult, would never have to wear the same outfit in the same week; and she kept true to her word. She had a couple CLOSETS, FULL OF CLOTHES....PACKED!! I sure miss her but Jesus needed her in heaven with him. SHE WAS A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH! She always used to tell me that out of all her nieces and nephews, I was her favorite. That meant the world to me; because the feeling was and still is very mutual!! I love ya Aunt Nellie!
