John Henry Brock enlisted under the first call made on Texas troops at Dallas in July or August, 1861 and became a member of Co. E, 6th Texas Calvary, and served that regiment under General Sul Ross' Brigade until November the 19th, 1864 when he was captured by the Federals at Springhill, Tennessee, and was kept a prisoner at Chicago, Illinois until the close of the war.
