James D. Self, 83, of Rushville, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 in the Rush Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 3, 1924 in Hart Co., Ky., he was the son of J. Willard and Lydia Irene (Crane) Self, both deceased. He married Mildred Pauline Redden May 17, 1947; she survives.

Mr. Self was a 1944 graduate of Rushville High School. He spent most of his life in Rushville. He retired from Rush County Schools after 38 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post #150 in Rushville. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors in addition to his wife include one son, Neil Self (and wife Debbie) of Jefferson City, Montana; one daughter, Debbie (Mrs. Ward) Farlow of Rushville, three brothers, Bob Self (and wife Lela) of Rushville, Richard Self of North Little Rock, Ark. and Bill (and wife Lois) of Franklin; one sister, Ann Shelton of Mauldin, S.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Derk Walker; five sisters; and one brother.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Moster Mortuary in Rushville with Pastor Mick Saunders and Randy Kirk officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Presbyterian Church or the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County.
