Bessie C. Bowen, 101, beloved wife, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, passed peacefully to eternal life on January 9, 2009 at The Glenwood House in Wellington, KS.

She was born the daughter of Robert and Mary (Belcher) Yount on August 17, 1907. Bessie was the only daughter with five brothers, Albert, Mack, Claude, Robert, and Pascal Yount.

On June 7, 1930, she and John Baxter Bowen were united in marriage and celebrated 55 years together until he passed January 2, 1985.

Bessie spent most of her life in Wellington as a homemaker. Her life was built around her family. She was the most wonderful mother. There was always a big smile and her eyes lit up when we came home.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Philip Eugene Bowen.

Survivors include her daughter Shirley Bridges and husband, Wayne, of Klamath Falls, OR, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Graveside Services will be held at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on January 14, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Don Bryant of the First Christian Church will officiate.

There will be no visitation.
