Marvin K. Ackerman, 75, Dickinson died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Benedict's Health Center, Dickinson. Marvin's funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2009 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Noel T. Vold officiating. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honor Guard following the service. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Marvin was born May 1, 1933 in Eureka, S.D., the son of Theofil and Helen (Singer) Ackerman. He was raised and educated in Campbell County of South Dakota. The Ackermans moved to Mobridge, S.D. when he was 14 years old.

Marvin was united in marriage to Erna Mae Rougutt on August 27, 1955 in Mobridge at the Zion Lutheran Church.

Marvin joined the National Guard in 1952 and had served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He remained in the active reserves until 1960. Upon his discharge, the Ackermans moved to New England and later to Dickinson in 1960. Marvin worked as a service station mechanic from 1960 to 1973, and from 1973 to 1987 he was a salesmen for United Auto Parts. He stayed busy with various jobs from 1987 to his retirement in the mid 1990's.

Marvin had been a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He had enrolled in an electrical course and enjoyed building electrical parts and mechanisms. He enjoyed camping and fishing with the kids, and especially enjoyed the time that he could spend with his family and friends.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Erna Mae; four children, Natalie Hondl and Nancy (Keith) Lantz, Dickinson, Douglas (Jackie) Ackerman, Harwood, and David Ackerman, Bismarck; one sister, Cleo (Walt) Zacher, Hot Springs, S.D.; and three grandchildren, Brooks Hondl, Chelsey Lantz, and Casey Thielen. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.
