Julia B. Fields, 93, of Coal Valley, formerly of Manassas, Va., died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, Ill.

Mrs. Fields was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Norfolk the daughter of William and Mary Young Trant. She married Johnnie Fields in 1921 in Norfolk County, Va. He died on April 20, 1991.

Julia was a member of Noble Street Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and worked with the Church Missionary Group at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Centreville, Va. She enjoyed fashion, traveling, cooking and watching sports.

Survivors include daughters, Mildred O. Robinson of Rapidan, Va., Edith Naylor and Elise Manley, both of Portsmouth and Joan Robinson of Coal Valley, Ill.; sons, Theodore Fields and Roy Fields Sr., both of Portsmouth and Floyd Fields of Woodbridge, Va.; daughters-in-law, Ethel Fields of Falls Church, Va., and Constance Fields of Portsmouth; son-in-law, Arthur Naylor of Portsmouth; 46 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Genevieve Archer of Philadelphia; brothers, James Trant and Vernon Trant, both of Portsmouth. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Naylor; sons, John and Robert Fields; three sisters, four brothers and a son-in-law, Garfield Robinson.

Services for Mrs. Fields will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Centreville, Va. Burial will be in Stonewall Memorial Gardens, Manassas, Va. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ames Funeral Home, Manassas. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association. Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, Ill., is handling arrangements.
