Gertrude Ellen Jacoby was born July 3, 1902, in Olin, Iowa. Here she spent her childhood to the age of seven years. Then with her father and mother moved to Oelwein, Iowa where she attended the public schools and was living at the time of her death. On November 25, 1919 she as united in marriage to Allen W. Bates of Oelwein, Iowa making her home here until she was called to the great beyond. Saturday morning, may 26, 1923, being at the time of her death 20 years, 10 months, and 22 days old.
To this union was born two sons, Jess Winson Bates and Walter Allen Bates.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and two sons, father, mother, two sisters, and one brother, two grandmothers and one grandfather, three uncles and three aunts.
She had been in failing health about one year when some two weeks ago she grew worse until Thursday of last week when she took serious was rushed to the hospital but no help was for her.
Funeral service were conducted from the residence of her parents, 626 4th Ave., West by W.T. Walker, pastor of the Church of Christ, she was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
