Born: 1846, Tipton County, Indiana

Civil War, Union Army(1861-1865)you were 18-20 yrs old at end of War.
U.S. Census 1880, in the State of Iowa w/wife & two kids
U.S. Census 1900, in Calcasieu Parish, La w/wife & six kids
Allen Parish, La. 1919, buried in Kinder McRill Cemetery.

You married Sarah Ruth Ann Farlow 26 Jul 1874.

Your father was Harvey Denney, b) 1820, Surry County, North Carolina
Your mother was Sophia Shaw, b) 1827-1829, Ohio, USA.

The U.S. Census (1880) shows you had traveled from Indiana to Iowa, and lived in Colfax, Dallas County, Iowa with wife, Ruth and two children at the time of the Census, and probably had the other four before moving down to SouthWest La.

The U.S. Census (1900), shows your birth was in Indiana, & your wife was Ruth A. Denney, your residence was in Ward 1, Hickory Flat, (all east of K.C. & W.G. r.r.) Calcasieu parish, La. Your wife was Ruth A. Denney, with six children: Edith Denney, Maud Denney, Harvey Denney, Mary Denney, Walter Denney, Lafon Denney.

This shows that between 1880 and 1900, you traveled from the State of Iowa to Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.

Allen Parish death certificate shows you died December 6, 1919 and was buried in Kinder McRill Cemetery. Records also shows Ruth A. Denney filed for a Civil War Pension. There is a land record (80 acres) for Isaac F. Denney (near Kinder, Louisiana) dated September 23, 1893.

You had once been a Union soldier assigned "Co K, 51 Ohio Inf". The Civil War lasted from "1861-1865" and the McRill cemetery began in 1899, you were buried in 1919. I knew something had happened between the end of the War and the time you were buried, (so I researched your history and now I know). It is noted that you had been born in Indiana, and enlisted in a regiment from Ohio. The insignia on your gravestone shows a "recessed shield", unique to the Union military.

You and your wife Ruth were related to the Shaw families in Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina.

You have a son, Walter Denney (1883-1956) He was found to be buried in Lake Charles, La. His wife was Anna Guidry (1906-1983). Another son, Lafon Wallace Denney (1891-1966) died in Corpus Christi, Texas. His wife was Elnoro Ruth Smith. You had a daughter, Mary Denney also not yet found, and could be one of the three unmarked graves next to yours.

You are now no longer just a name on a grave stone, but somebody with a history and a memorial...... Rest In Peace.... Charles T. Baggett

Much of the above info was previously supplied by Kenneth Shaw III, in Massachusetts. The rest was concluded through the U.S. Census.... Thanks to the thorough research of his family.
