Ruth "Gerri" Jude of South Charleston passed away April 2, 2009.She was born on April 4, 1934 in Williamson WV

She grew up in the coalfields of Mingo County, where she developed her extraordinary personality and love of life.Gerri started her career in the furniture business at B&L Furniture in Williamson. She worked for Helig Myers and retired as a top salesperson from Value City Furniture, St. Albans.As a resident of South Charleston since 1992, Gerri was very active in the community, serving on the South Charleston Property Board, South Charleston Economic Development Authority and the South Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors. She also worked as a substitute teacher's aide for Kanawha County schools. Her proudest achievement was being elected to serve as councilwoman for Ward II in the city of South Charleston. Councilwoman Jude loved her constituency and worked tirelessly to make her ward and South Charleston a better place to work and live.Gerri was a faithful member of the Cross Lanes Baptist Church and shared her love of God with all who were privileged to know her. Her family rejoices in the fact that she is in Heaven and that her spirit will continue to guide them.

Gerri was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Renn and Adlia Jude.

She is survived by two sisters, Christine Neal of Charleston and Pauline Meadows of South Charleston; daughter, Nancy (Dick) Daugherty of Dunbar; grandson, Jamie (Beth) Davis of Charlotte, N.C., very special great-grandchildren, Meredith and Brady; and several close nieces and nephews.

A service to honor the life of Gerri will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at Cross Lanes Baptist Church with the Rev. Seth Polk officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Williamson.Family and friends will visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, and one hour prior to the service at the church.In lieu of flowers,
