Philippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. Andrew Vincent Stoltenberg was awarded his Medal of Honor as a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class, United States Navy. His citation reads: "For distinguished conduct in the presence of the enemy in battle at Katbalogan, Samar, Philippine Islands, 16 July 1900." Besides the Medal of Honor, he received the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Spanish-American War Medal, Philippine Insurrection Medal and the World War I Victory Medal. He was discharged from the Navy in August of 1920 after 30 years of service. When he was four years old, his father died. He immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1882, joined the Navy by 1890 and became a naturalized American citizen after 1900.
