Joanne O. Bergsrud, age 62, died peacefully at St. John's Hospital, Maplewood, Minnesota, on November 26, 2000, from complications of her three years battle with lymphoma.

Joanne Olive Sletten was born at Bricelyn, Minnesota, on July 11, 1938, of parents Philip and Anna Sletten. her young years were spent in Faribault and Winthrop, Minnesota. She attended Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn., and the University of Minnesota from which she received her BS degree in Nursing in 1961.

On April 15, 1961 she was married to Fred G. Bergsrud, formerly of Spring Grove, Minn., whom she had met singing in the choir at the University Lutheran Church of Hope. He was also a University of Minnesota graduate in agriculture engineering. Joanne and Fred Bergsrud working in Fred's agriculture profession lived at Ames, Iowa; Manhatten, Kansas; Staples, MN; and, last at New Brighton, MN where Fred was associated with the University of Minn. Her funeral was held November 30, 2000, from Christ the King Lutheran Church, New Brighton. A memorial service followed on December 1 at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer, Spring Grove, and interment in the Black Hammer church cemetery near Fred's parents.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Fred; son, Mark (Christine) Bergsrud of The Woodlands, Texas; daughters, Ann (Wouter) van Bruggen of The Woodlands, TX; and Laura (Tim) Peterson of St. Paul, MN.; three grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Wayne (Karen) Sletten of Faith, SD; and sister Phyllis (James) Dalager of Thief River Falls, MN.
