Alford Fletcher Augustine of Port Colborne passed away at the Welland General Hospital on Saturday, February 15, 2009 at the age of 95 years. He was predeceased by his wife Violet (Irvine) and brothers Donald Augustine and Kenneth Lusty, and sister Dorothy Templain. Survived by sister Lois Excell (James), daughters Barbara Carpenter (Gordon) and Emily Duvall (Gary), son, Ronald (Carol), niece Phyllis Sutton (Doug), nephews Jack Templain and Patrick Dolan (Alexis), as well as 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Alford, a veteran of WWII, served in the RCAF 1940- 45, RAF Occupation Force 1946-50, and RCAF 1950-63. After retirement from the Service, Alford was employed by the Department of External Affairs with postings in Germany, Switzerland, and USSR. Upon returning to Canada he was employed as a Commissionaire by the City of Ottawa. Upon retirement Alford moved to Port Dover, Ontario and later to Portal Village, Port Colborne. Alford will be missed by many friends and family.
Cremation has taken place. The Augustine Family will receive visitors at the Port Colborne Chapel of the Davidson Funeral Homes 135 Clarence St. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until the Memorial Service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment of ashes in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
