Residence: Wabash County, Indiana. Enlisted as a Private on 30 January 1865 in Company F, 153rd Infantry Regiment Indiana. Mustered Out Company F, 153rd Infantry Regiment Indiana on 4 September 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.

Son of James Grant and Elizabeth Jane Wise. He was also the grandson of Revolutionary War Minute Man, Daniel Grant of Virginia.

His sisters were Dolly Grant Diltz, Nancy Grant Sailors, and Mary Grant Carpenter. His brother was Abraham Wise Grant.
