Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Wharton Funeral Chapel. Reverend Greg Hook, Pastor, Alva First Baptist Church officiated. Burial followed in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Wharton Funeral Chapel.Ora Mae, daughter of Rachel Nevada (Ellis) and Eugene Burton Williams was born on April 7, 1925 in Putnam, Oklahoma and passed away at the Fairview Hospital on the 23rd of October at the age of 83 years, 6months and 16 days.She attended the Turpin School for the first three grades and graduated High School in Beaver. After graduating she started working at the telephone office in Beaver. Miss Williams was married to William Isaac Baker on February 23, 1945 in Liberal, Kansas. To their marriage five children; Virginia Mae, William Leroy, Terry Lynn, Dorothy Faye and Sharron Ilene were born.Following their marriage they lived in Tahlequah and Muskogee working for tent factories. After being married only a year they moved to Beaver working in building construction. In 1954 they moved to Alva and worked for Robert R. Brown. In 1960 they started "Bill Baker Construction Company" in Alva. Ora Mae took care of the books, drafted house plans and handled the office administration of the business. Bill built over 110 houses, churches, stores, banks and saving and loans. Ora Mae owned and operated two women's dress shops in Alva and Woodward. In 1983 they sold the construction business and went into the salt-water disposal business at Bouse Junction.She was a member of the Alva Church of God and was also very active in several bowling leagues and served as secretary. She loved quilting, cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, puzzles and was an avid reader. Ora was proud of her children and grandchildren and loved family get togethers.Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her son William Leroy on April 9, 2008, a granddaughter, Patricia Ann Cropp, a great grandson, Trace Baker, her parents and a sister Pauline Schollenbarger.Ora Mae is survived by her husband Bill of 63 years. Three daughters; Virginia and her husband Gary Cropp of Hoisington, Kansas, Dorothy Burt of Bethany, Oklahoma, Sharron and her husband Dave Voth of Springdale, Arkansas and a son and his wife, Terry and Cindy of Carmen, Oklahoma. Ten grandchildren; Robin Kletke, Luke Cropp, Christy Murphy, Brandon Baker, Shane Baker, Trenton Burt, Jamie Maselli, Chris Baker, Jennifer Williams and Tara Dickson. Fourteen great grandchildren, a sister, Patsy Lee and her husband Steve Sharrock of Springfield, Colorado, a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Contributions may be made in her memory for the education of her great grandchildren.
