She was born April 6, 1921, in Navarre in Dickinson County, to Jacob M. and Martha E. Maxcy Strole. She graduated from Denison High School in Jackson County in 1939. She was a waitress, seamstress and a nurse's aide. She worked for Hutton Monuments and Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton and later at the Annie Laurie Johnson Child and Family Development Center in Holton.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holton. She was honored Jan. 4, 2001, as a 50-year member of the auxiliary to Memorial Post No. 1367 of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Holton. She had served as local president and district president of the auxiliary.
She married William R. Bolen on July 16, 1946, in Horton. He died Jan. 10, 1995. A son, Ronald Dale Bolen, died April 1, 1996. A great-grandson, Dakota Ray Cornelison, died March 27, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Williams, Topeka, and Sally Cornelison, Mayetta; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Mrs. Bolen will lie in state at the funeral home until time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Friends of Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
