Mr. Townsend, who was born March 26, 1868 in Mississippi, had been making his home in the Hudson Community with his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Gates. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Elmo Townsend of Winnfield, John H. of Shreveport, and Stanley of Texas; five daughters, Mr. G. C. Hall and Mrs. H. F. Prestige of Baton Rouge, Mrs. W. H. Gates of Dodson, Mrs. H. W. Wilks of Lovington, New Mexico, and Mrs. T. C. Jones of Mexico; two stepdaughters, Mrs. D. O. O'Quin of Bunkie and Mrs. Grady Farnell of El Dorado.
He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one brother, B. F. Townsend of Joyce.
