From the Wills Point Chronicle, Friday, August 29, 1969:

Steve was critically injured when a tractor is was driving overturned on him on Monday, August 18, 1969. He was rushed to Baylor Hospital in Dallas where he had emergency brain surgery for his head injuries. He never regained conscious.

He and his family lived in the Hiram Community at the time of his death and he was a student at Wills Point. Surviving him were his parents David Russell Vann and Wilma Ruth Isham: two sisters, Kathy and Peggy; two brothers, Robert and Gary; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.S. "Bill" Isham of Terrell and Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Vann of Grapevine.
