Daughter of Archibald & Nancy A. Martin Moses
Married James David Hicks
Sarah Ann Moses was born near Roanoke, Virginia, and spent most of her life near Dixon, Missouri. She and James David Hicks were the parents of six known children: William Walter "Bill"; Edward Richard "Ed"; Janie Bell; Ella Sue; Archie Read; and Leslie; and one unidentified child. She died at the home of one of her daughters near Norfork, Arkansas.
The Cotter Record, Cotter, Arkansas, June 25, 1926
Mrs. Sarah A. Hicks, an old and respected resident of near Norfork, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ella Best, last Saturday. Rev. Jett conducting the services. Three sons and two daughter survived the mother.
{Additional Information: In the 1900 census of Union Township, Pulaski County, Missouri, Sarah A. Hicks was recorded along with her husband James D. and their four children: William W., age 11; Edward B., age 9; Ella S., age 6; and Jane B, age 3. She was shown as the mother of 4 children of which 4 were living. Then in the 1910 census, J. D. & Sarah Hicks were enumerated along with three children: Janie, age 13; Archie, age 10; and Leslie, age 8. She was shown as the mother of 7 children of which 5 were still living. Based upon the information in those two censuses, it would appear that a child was born and died between 1900 and 1910. No other information has been found in regard to Leslie (son).]
(The old tablet style marker was getting very hard to read; therefore, a second, small marker, was added on July 11, 2012 to help preserve the identity of the grave.)
