Catherine Elizabeth "Lizzie" was the fifth child of Michael Hanrahan of Ireland and Mary Josephine Fitzgerald. She was born and grew up in Nelson County and attended Nelson County Schools.

She worked as a typesetter at the Kentucky Standard newspaper and was a sorter at a pickle factory in Louisville.

On Jan 9 1912, she married Thomas Marcellus Fowler, son of Joseph B. Fowler and Mary Elizabeth Wathen. They had two children, J. Wathen "Mike" and George Marcellus "Little Mike".

Following the death of her husband, Lizzie went to work in the local distillery and took care of her son, George Marcellus, during his illnesses.

She died of heart disease.
