"Rena was an Angel, loved by all"

Rena was the daughter of Jeremiah Smith and Celestine McClintock Smith. She was born in Vevay, Switzerland, Indiana and had four brothers and four sisters. Her father was a farmer and when she was still quite young the family moved to Pleasant Valley, Cowley, Kansas.
When she was about 25 she married Clarence LaVerne "Vern" Adams, he was the son of a preacher man. Together they had two sons Cecil and Harland, in addition to two children who died as infants.
When Rena was 48 she died of breast cancer.
She is buried at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near her parents.

Obituary

Mrs. C.L. Adams
The funeral service for Mrs. C.L. Adams was held from the Hackney Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. Mesch of Ponac City, her former pastor while living in Blackwell officiated. The church was full of friends to attend the service and the floral offerings were very beautiful.
A quartet from the church sang, "Face to Face," "Some Day the Silver Chord Will Break," and "Rock of Ages." The pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased. The body was laid to rest in the Hackney cemetery.
Mrs. C.L. Adams died on the morning of December 31st, at her home, 308 Seward Street, after suffering failing health for two years. Her condition had been serious for the last few weeks.
Rena C. Smith was born January 14, 1877, near Vevay, Indiana. Three years later her family moved to Kansas, locating on a farm near Hackney. Here she grew to womanhood and was married to C.L. Adams August 12, 1902. Later they removed to Blackwell, Oklahoma resideing there until two years ago when they went to California for the sake of Mrs. Adams' health. After a few months they returned to Wichita for the aid of specialist's treatment and later came to Winfield where they planned to soon build a home. Mrs. Adams is preceded in death by two children, both whom died in infancy.
Mrs. Adams was a woman of beautiful Christian character, accepting Christ as her Saviour early in life when she joined the United Brethren Church at Hackney. On moving to Blackwell she changed to the Methodist Episcopal Church retaining an active membership until death. Mrs. Adams took an active interest in the Grange, the Ladies Aid and the Improvement Society.
Surviving are the husband, C.L. Adams, two children, Cecil L. and Harland H.; three brothers Loren C. and William M. Smith of Blackwell and Harry C. Smith of Arkansas City and three sisters Dora Johnston of Blackwell, and Pearl Smith and Clara Mitchell of Upland, California.
