Near this spot lie the remains of Captain Sooy Smith 1748-1849 and his wife Anna Hedges 1804-1858. Among their children was Brigadier General William Sooy Smith 1830-1916. He attained fame in the Civil War and as a world renown Engineer. General Smith rests in Forest Home Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois. He was the only General in the history of Pickaway County.
