Norman "eloped" with Alfrieda Charlotte Anna Elizabeth Kirschstein in her home town of Chicago, IL; priest A. A. World War I ended a month later, and Norman was discharged on Jan. 10 1919. The couple had three more children, Norman David (1921-1997), Gloria Ann (1926-2014) and Shirley Marie (1928-2015).

For most of his adult life, Norman was a policeman for the City of Minneapolis, MN, rising from the level of Sergeant to that of Chief of Police and serving some time as a detective, as well.
