It was my pleasure to meet Edna, my husband's grandmother, for the first time in the summer of 1964 when we went to WA. I was impressed by her friendliness and genuine welcome into the family. A deep regret is that I didn't have the privilege of getting to know her better.

Edna's father was a prominent & well respected citizen of Goldendale, Klickitat Co, WA. Her mother died on September 29, 1892, about two months before her fourth birthday. On October 16, 1895, her father married Anna McKillip who was a good mother to her and her siblings until she died on February 25, 1902, when Edna was 13 years old.
John purchased a large impressive monument to mark the Smith family plot. His name was inscribed on the front; the names of his wives were inscribed on each side of his stone, facing their tombstones.

Guy met George Brown in Centralia through work and invited him to go to Goldendale with him. George, a handsome young man, who had lived in Centralia most of his life, was a handyman and worked as a machinist, mechanic, & repaired radios. George was introduced to Grace's sister, Edna, a beautiful young woman. A romance blossomed between the two, and they made plans to marry. This resulted in a double wedding for Edna and Grace, held in Goldendale on July 1, 1906. One of their witnesses was their brother, Fred Smith. Both couples moved to Centralia. Grace's marriage wouldn't last; Edna and George's did.

In 1915 George was working as a machinist, and by 1928 he & his son, Loren, who was 21 years old, were partners in the Browns Service Station & Auto Repair. By 1930 George was in the radio repair business.
Gerald was the first of their sons to marry. His marriage to Charlotte May Phillips took place on February 3, 1934. They had one son, Gerald, known as Jerry.

In 1935 Edna's father became ill and came from Goldendale to live with them so she could help care for him. He died on August 5, 1935, and his body was transported back home, where he was buried beside his beloved wife, Ella.

Smith, Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive. The deceased was a member of the Masonic lodge at Goldendale and of the W.O.W. The body was removed to the mortuary of Sticklin and Sons, from where it will be sent this evening to Goldendale for funeral services and interment."

Tragedy struck the family when Edna & George's son, Gerald, was killed in an auto accident on September 26, 1938. George purchased eight grave plots in Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Gerald was the first to be buried there.

Up until around the mid 1940's George owned Browns Radio Service. Later they moved to Cinebar where they owned a small farm and from there to Offutt Lake near Tenino.
Their son, Loren, died in a Tacoma hospital on May 8, 1960, and was the second to be buried in the family plot.

Brown, at the family home; one sister, Mrs. W.L. Bronson, Route 5, Olympia, and three grandchildren."
