Eva Lee Pounders

January 18, 1926 - March 13, 2009

Eva Lee Pounders was born January 18, 1926 in Milam County, Texas to Thomas Wesley and Martha Elizabeth (Caywood) Cotten. She lived most of her life in Rockdale. On May 18, 1943 she and Freddie Benjamin Pounders were married by A.A. McVoy at the Rockdale Fair Park. To this union four children were born.

Eva was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church in Rockdale. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and making quilts for her family. She was a former member of the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Eva passed away Friday morning, March 13, 2009 in the Scott & White Hospital in Temple, reaching the age of 83. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 7, 1987; her parents; twin grandsons, Colby Lee and Micah Wayne Pounders on June 17, 1976; two brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are four children, Bennie Lee Pounders and wife Hannah of Rockdale, Elizabeth Rogers and husband Bennie of Rockdale, Freddie Wayne Pounders and wife Nicki of Rockdale and James Thomas Pounders and wife Lynn of San Gabriel. Sisters, Joyce Yakesch of Milano, Dot Moore of San Angelo and Vivian Covert of Bastrop. Six grandchildren, Tommie Pounders and wife Susie, Waylon Scott Rogers and wife Dayna, Kelly Schulz and husband Randy, Jason Pounders and fiancee Danielle, Jami Lynn Becker and husband Kirk, Abbey Diane Davis and husband James. 12 great grandchildren; nephew, Sessions Pounders and wife Sondra of Rockdale.

Pallbearers: Tommie Pounders, Waylon Rogers, Jason Pounders, Randy Schulz, Clyde Pounders, Chris Pounders. Honorary pallbearers: Kirk Becker and James Davis. Visitation 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the funeral home. Services 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Burial in the Hugh Wilson Cemetery in Tanglewood with Rev. Earl Presley officiating.
