John Curren Johnston was born in Georgia. He came with his mother and sisters to Carroll County, Miss. about 1828.
The land purchased was former Choctow land ceded to the USA by the Dancing Rabbit Treaty of 1828.
It would seem that John's father Benjamin was could of been a military person and that Zilpha's land patents were for military service.
Son of Zilpha and Benjamin "Pitchfork" Johnston.
Zilpha used 2 Land Patents in Carroll County Mississippi between (2 square miles) Vaiden and Shongalo, Mississippi with the Zilpha Creek running through the middle of her property.
The area described as Zilpha district as late as the 1930 USA census is named after her. The term originated from traveling Methodist ministers holding meetings at Zilpha Johnston's place.
