WOODBURY — Mr. William F. Lavelle, 89, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Waterbury Hospital.

Mr. Lavelle was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late William and Mary Anne (Mitchell) Lavelle. He received his bachelor's degree from St. John's University and his master's degree from Fairfield University. Mr. Lavelle worked in advertising for Uniroyal Chemical Company. He had resided in Woodbury for more than 50 years and was a very active volunteer for many years at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem. Mr. Lavelle was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

He leaves a daughter, Juliana Schmitt of Ashville, N.C.; two sisters, Helen Hickey of Garden City, N.Y., and Mary Meade of Long Island, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Anthony William Schmitt and Juliana Bernadette Schmitt; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ann Landers.

A memorial Mass will be held 8 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Church of Regina Laudis, Flanders Road, Bethlehem. Inurnment will take place at the Abbey following the Mass. The family requests no flowers please.
