However, muster rolls of Company F, (Blyth's) 44th Mississippi Infantry, state that he enlisted in the company at Tullahoma, Tennessee, 12 Nov 1862. It is possible that, in the interim, he was at a Camp of Instruction receiving training prior to his assignment. The Jan-Feb 1863 muster roll states, "Absent - Sick & sent to hospital by surgeon." The Mar-Apr 1863 muster roll states, "Absent - Died in hospital at Chattanooga Tenn. Feby 22/63." Other records indicate that the hospital was Academy Hospital in Chattanooga. On a "Register of Effects of Deceased Soldiers, turned over to Quartermasters, C.S.A." there are records of two receipts, one for $17.25 and one for $16.00.
