Mr. Carl A. Bailey, 85, resident of River Landing at Sandy Ridge, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, in First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Kenneth Broman- Fulks and the Reverend Dr. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery prior to the service. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Multi Purpose Room of River Landing.
Mr. Bailey was born July 19, 1923, in Waycross, Georgia to Carl Byron and Margurite Morton Bailey. He had been a resident of High Point since 1933 and served in the U.S. Army in Africa and Italy during World War II in the 686th Ord. Ammo Co. Mr. Bailey was a Mason, an avid wood carver and fisherman. He was an Elder, Deacon, teacher and treasurer at First Presbyterian Church of High Point. Mr. Bailey taught Sunday School for many years at his church, at the Presbyterian Home, and at his current residence, River Landing. Recently, his class at River Landing honored Mr. Bailey by naming the class, The Carl A. Bailey Sunday School Class.
He was a Leader for many years with the Boy Scouts of America. He was the recipient of the "Silver Beaver Award" from the National Office of Boy Scouts of America, and was still considered a Commissioner of Troop # 20.
On May 3, 1942, he married the "love of his life", June York who survives of the home at River Landing. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage in May. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Camille Moses and husband, James of Morganton and a son, Mr. B. Scott Bailey and his wife, Donna of Mt. Airy. He has four grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother, Mr. Sidney Earl Bailey of High Point and several nieces and nephews.
