Mark Curtis Garey, 38, Topeka, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born February 11, 1971 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Patrick and Linda Chartrand Garey.

He lived in Grand Junction, Colorado until moving to Topeka in 2000. He attended Mesa State College, Grand Junction, and the University of Phoenix. He received a Certified Dietary Manager degree from Kaw Area Technical School.

Mark was currently employed as the food service director at Atria Hearthstone. He previously had worked at Rolling Hills Retirement Home and for the Colorado Department of Corrections in their dietary departments. He was a member of Light of the World Christian Center and the Dietary Managers Association.

He married Heather McElroy on August 25, 1990 in Grand Junction. She survives.

Other survivors include his son, Chandler Garey and a foster son, David of the home; his parents, Patrick and Linda Garey of Grand Junction; a sister, Anita Garey of Alexandria, VA; and a brother, Jason (Lindsey) Garey of Steamboat Springs, CO.

Mark was preceded in death by a son, Noah Curtis Garey on September 21, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Light of the World Christian Center with interment in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.

Mark will lie in state after noon today at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
