Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Rex was born March 21, 1926, in Slate Springs, Miss., to Lizzie and W.E. Nelms.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lona Mae Nelms, and daughter, Lona Nan Thompson. He worked in the sporting goods department of Leonard's Department Store in Fort Worth.
Survivors: Children, Nelson Johnson and wife, Sharon, of Fort Worth, Marvin Emmitt Nelms of Hurst; grandchildren, Robbie Thompson, Theresa Camfield, Chris Johnson, Jamie Nelms, Mason Nelms, Melissa Nelms and Jared Harrison; eight great-grandchildren; and siblings, Roland Nelms of Arlington and Lora Taylor of Calhoun City, Miss.
