Services for Marree Newell Calcote, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, at New Hope United Methodist Church in Brookhaven with burial in Newell Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday from 6 until 8:30 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Mrs. Calcote, 100, died March 8, 2009, at Brook Manor Nursing Center. She was born on Oct. 5, 1908, to John E. Newell and Clara Britt Newell.

She was a retired teacher and for the majority of her teaching career she taught in Lincoln County at New Sight, East Lincoln and Loyd Star schools. She also taught for four years in Yazoo County. She graduated from at Loyd Star High School in 1929 and State Teacher's College in 1933, which is now known as the University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Calcote was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Bart Calcote; her sisters, Radie N. Montgomery and Kathleen N. Britt; and a brother, Eldon Newell.

Survivors are her daugthers, Peggy Calcote Poole and husband, Jackie and Patricia Calcote Lofton and husband, Randall, all of Brookhaven; her six grandchildren, Siennie Poole, Shannon Poole and wife, Regina, Shawana Poole Moak and husband, Wayne, Sonya Poole Calcote and husband, Bryan, Scott Poole and wife, April, and Seth Lofton and wife, Kaylin; and her seven great-grandchildren, Carrie L. Moak, Cole Moak, Marley Poole, Meagan Poole, Nathan Poole, Clera Barton Calcote and Annaston Poole, all of Brookhaven.
