Pfc. Ashley Barnes-Lambert of Wilmer, Alabama attended Mary G. Montgomery High School and enlisted in the Army September 2007 after going through basic training at 17. She had a love for her country and loved being in the military. Ashley was a very kind and loving person. She accepted everybody and would help you if you needed it. On Nov. 14, 2008 she married and deployed to Afghanistan in December but returned home on midtour leave to handle a divorce she'd filed. Her short marriage was filled with domestic violence and money problems. Ashley was a proud member of the United States Military serving her country as an Army PV2 in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. She was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. She loved being a soldier. At Mary G. Montgomery, Ashley prepared for her military career as a member of the ROTC. She looked forward to returning to her battalion and her duties in Afghanistan in two weeks. Ashley was predeceased by her paternal Grandmother Ruth Barnes and maternal Great Grandfather Silas Bishop. She is survived by her parents Howard and Michelle Bosarge and DuWayne and Jean Barnes; Grandparents Rickey and Elaine Williams, Kenneth Hippensteel, Henry and Mary A. Bosarge, and Jack Barnes; and Great Grandparents Elsie Bishop, Edwin and Lazette Farnell, and Nettie Gowder; siblings Emily Bosarge, Katherine Bosarge, Preston Bosarge, Nisa Bosarge, Dakota Bosarge, Hannah Barnes, Sarah Barnes, Casey Forson, Vanessa Kennedy, and two foster siblings Addie Zurbrugg and Victoria Fernandez-Creel; aunts and uncles Mike Williams, Mack and Melissa Howell, Michael Shayne and Debbie Williams, Robert and Lazette Cooley, Robbie and Joanie Bosarge, Michael and Lisa Hippensteel, Reverend Michael and Bunny Poston, and Mitchel and Cynthia Barnes. Ashley's untimely death did not happen on a foreign field as a soldier, rather, her danger was here stateside. "I finally found a way to leave. With courage in my heart, I returned from Afghanistan to put my plan in place. Today did not happen as I had hoped and believed." Ashley wanted to be a social worker/counselor. She had just driven up to Clarksville to see her Lawyer and was eager to get back to Afghanistan after starting the divorce proceedings. Her estranged husband was charged with her death. Ashley was 18.
