CARTHAGE - Funeral services for Grace Virginia Cassity, 97, of Carthage, Texas, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Allen Tilley, Dr. Ray Brooks and the Rev. Rick Linebarger officiating. Interment will be in Youngblood Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Cassity died March 7, 2009, in Carthage, Texas.

Mrs. Cassity was born May 22, 1911, in Beckville, Texas. She was one of four children born to the marriage of J.T. and Julia Hill Sharp. Grace was a graduate of Beckville High School, later marrying Oscar Ola Cassity on November 29, 1932, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage before he preceded her in death. They lived in Rusk County and Panola County in the Longbranch Community, moving to Carthage in 1989.

She loved her Lord and family above all else as a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Carthage. Her children and grandchildren knew they were loved by Grandma Grace.

Mrs. Cassity was a hard worker at any task she would undertake. She was an avid quilter, loved playing 42 and eating out with family and friends. She spent her last six years as a resident of Briarcliff Healthcare and the family appreciates the care shown their mother.

Mrs. Cassity is also preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Cassity; and two sons-in-law, Danny Wayne Pope and Jack Paul Watkins

She is survived by her sons, John William Cassity and wife, Danny Sue, of Henderson and Joe Richard Cassity and wife, Judy, of Carthage; daughters, Virginia Bassett and husband, Mack, of Henderson, Judy Watkins of New Salem, Mary Mauritzen and husband, Kenneth , of Clayton, and Dian Pope Brooks and husband, Carrol, of Waxahachie; 12 grandchildren, Andy Cassity, Susan Dorsett, Karen Medford, Keith Bassett, Julianna Brightwell, Jerry Watkins, Joel Watkins, Kay Mauritzen, Donna Greenwood, Dwayne Pope, Darla Wilson and Gary Cassity; numerous great- and great- great- grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Gladys Cassity Brown of Bryan, Al Sharp of Beckville and Betty Sharp of San Diego, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Andy Cassity, Keith Bassett, Jerry Watkins, Joel Watkins, Dwayne Pope and Gary Cassity.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Jones, Jerry Jones and Jimmy Jones.
