Ingrid Johanna Koss was the youngest of seven children born to Robert Bläwert and Johanna Jäschinsky.

Mom was born and raised in Germany, her father was a Forester. She told stories of how, during the war, the military would come to their home and take everything of value (and worse). She told of hearing planes overhead and bombs exploding in the distance. (While researching my father's side of the family, I found that two of his family members were killed in bombing raids in East Germany at the time my mother was living there.) Mom escaped to the West with her mother, two sisters, and one brother while in her late teens. They left with one suitcase between them with the intention of going for a "short visit" to see family in the West. Her father was able to visit her in West Germany shortly before he passed away. She never saw the remainder of her East German family following the move, though she was able to establish phone contact with them after the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

Mom married Dad on August 7, 1959 in Germany and moved to the States after the birth of their fourth child.

Mom always remembered to call everyone in her family on the morning of their birthday. She would call as early as possible so she could be the first to wish you a Happy Birthday, even if it was six o'clock in the morning. She never forgot to send a birthday card, along with a five dollar bill with instructions to buy ourselves some ice cream. She loved reruns of "I Love Lucy" and "Lawrence Welk" and treasured time spent with family.

In the weeks and days prior to her passing, she became a U.S. citizen, had been in contact with her German family, and had seen or spoken to all of her children. She was at peace when she left this world.

Mom and Dad had four children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
