He was killed along with Cpl Dany Fortin and Cpl Kenneth Chad O'Quinn after their armoured vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in the Arghandab District approximately 10 kilometres northwest of Kandahar City. WO Brown served with the "Lincs and Winks" for 20 years and was on leave from his civilian job of 8 years as a special constable with the Niagara Regional Police. He was described as a leader who was dedicated to his job and also enjoyed sports, especially hockey. He is survived by his wife Mishelle; children Jenna, Mac, Owen and Ben; parents Ed and Cecilia Brown; four brothers and extended family.

His awards and decorations include the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD); UN Transitional Authority in Cambodia Medal; Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, Sacrifice Medal (posthumous).
