She was cremated and a memorial service will be held later. Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket announced arrangements.

Opal Geneva Stoddard was born Sept. 15, 1920, to Charles Edward and Mary Adeline (Alden) Stoddard at Sioux Falls, where she grew up.

She married Edward Mawson in about 1939, and this marriage was annulled. In about 1945, she married Howard Adkins, and they were later divorced.

In 1962, she married Albert "John" Anderson at Pierre. His construction work required them to move frequently, and they lived in many areas of the country.

After their divorce, she moved to Boulder, Colo., where she was employed as a cook at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. She later relocated to Portland, where she was a cook in a restaurant for many years before retiring in October 1998. She then moved to Woonsocket.

She was involved in many activities in her Portland apartment building; over the years she served as assistant manager and president of the Civic Club.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; three sisters, Thelma Lavinder, Ruth Mattson, and Carmen Erb; and a brother, Charles Stoddard.
