Hall of Fame Professional Football Team Owner. He was the owner of the National Football League's Washington Redskins from the team's founding in Boston in 1932 to his passing. He was considered the "master showman" of the NFL as he brought gala halftime pageants, team bands, and cheerleaders to the league. He also came up with the idea of having two divisions with a title playoff. He, along with Chicago Bears owner George Halas, were considered the two major forces in the NFL in the 1930s and 1940s. His one major drawback was that he would not sign any African-American players until he was forced to do so in 1962. He became a charter member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
