Funeral services for Mrs. Susan Ayers, 68, of Wells, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church of Wells with Bro. Frank Redd, Bro. Odis Johnson and Bro. Walter Clark, officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Ayers died Wednesday morning in a Lufkin hospital after a long illness.
She was born March 7, 1896, in Arkansas and had resided in Cherokee County most of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wells.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Daisy Thompson, Tennessee Colony, Mrs. Mamie Bruce, Houston, Mrs. Mildred Chapman, Tocca, Ga., and Miss Pauline Ayers, Wells; five sons, William and Marshall Ayers, both of Wells, Mart and James Ayers, both of Houston and S. C. Ayers, Fort Worth; 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.
